Florida’s property insurance crisis has always been complex and usually not beneficial to consumers.

Southwest Floridians have faced property insurance problems for years and now Hurricane Ian has made it worse for them.

Since Hurricane Ian, insurance carriers have been lacking in the customer service department.  From lackluster customer service to faulty denial of claims, hundreds if not thousands of insureds are trying to rebuild and still have not seen one cent. The insurance industry is denying claims and low-balling claims and at times giving the run around to their insured. Essentially, homeowners’ seeking help from their insurance companies in their time of need has been everything except a walk in the park.

And the headache for consumers is not over. Now Hurricane Ian could do even more damage to your insurance premiums.

Earlier this year, the Insurance Information Institute released a 2-page document discussing the trends and insights addressing the state’s property insurance crisis.

The industry-backed company projects that homeowners will see their premiums go up 40% or more. That’s much larger than the 9% the rest of the country’s homeowners will have to budget.

Some lawmakers believe the new laws that came of out the two special sessions last year will help homeowners with the price of their premiums, but that it could take years before consumers see any meaningful relief. These new laws were lobbied by the insurance industry and the focus was to bail them out of their own mismanagement, bad and greedy internal decisions and to help fatten their pockets all at the expense of hard-working citizens whose interests are not being addressed or protected.
