MARION COUNTY, Fla. – Marion County leaders released an update Monday afternoon on the damage done Saturday by an EF-1 tornado that cut a path of destruction.

Sheriff Billy Wood and Commissioner Carl Zalak released a video on Facebook to provide details of the clean-up effort.

According to the pair, the county property appraiser, Jimmy Cowan, estimated the property loss at $12.3 million, adding that this figure could rise.

“This preliminary estimate includes structural damage, loss of personal property and the cost of debris removal,” Zalak said.

The sheriff said no one was hurt during the powerful storm, which had winds reaching 110 mph.
