A handful of boats washed ashore in Palm Beach as Hurricane Nicole approached Florida’s east coast earlier this month, and several remain grounded throughout the town.
According to town police, seven vessels overturned or ran aground in the aftermath of the Category 1 storm, which made landfall Nov. 10 near Vero Beach with 75-mph winds.
Most of the vessels came from the Peanut Island area as strong north winds blanketed the county, police department spokesperson Capt. Will Rothrock said.
They included two sailboats, one 46-foot sport fisher, two pontoon boats and two skiffs or dinghies, Rothrock said.
One washed up on the beach near the Palm Beach Inlet, four were discovered near or on properties along Indian Road, one was found on a dock near Crest Road, and one was submerged near Chapel Hill Road.
The town has located the owners of some of the vessels, Rothrock said, while others have not been found.
